Post-Production - Evaluation

Here are some moc up's for our evaluation powerpoint. This idea is not yet set in stone but so far we like it. We chose to have medicine or scientific beakers as our background as we thought this created synergy with our medical drama. We used prescription style font for the writing to reinforce this idea of hospitals and medicine. We searched for a cool blue/green colour for the background as this is a colour many associate with hospitals as it is often the colour of scrubs outfits, patient gowns and the corridors and wards. We then chose the colour green for our writing. Although we havent yet added  in the photo's and clips the design is certainly done and the text is in the notes at the bottom however we will be moving some of them onto the slides for the examiner to see as this powerpoint is read rather than just 'presented'.

Post-Production - New Poster Idea's

Here are two other poster idea's we had for our film. The one at the top was based on the idea of representing the NHS hence the blue and white colours. However the layout of the poster is similar to that of the film 'Precious' which is also a drama which is why we thought it would be a good idea to use the same conventions. However one could argue that this poster is a bit too plain and white and therefore would not attract a wide audience. The poster at the bottom is based on the artist Mondrian who often puts plain boxes of different colours and sizes next to each other. We decided to create silhottes of hospital instruments to put in these 'windows' or 'boxes' to make them more interesting than just plain boxes. In the black box we put the tag as we thought this stood out. However we are not using this design as it has no synergy with our film or other ancilliary tasks. Our film is not colourful so to have a colourful poster such as this one would be misleading.

Post-Production - Magazine Article

This is our magazine article. We decided to create a false magazine name called sight and sound as we thought this sounded authentic. We included a synopsis and a list of the cast and crew. We also enlarged one specific quote which is also on our poster to create synergy. We also included a picture of our two main characters in action. This would help attract an audience as they can see that the film is interesting as our the actors. We described our film as an Indie film at the top of the magazine article to reinforce the idea that it is an independant film and that the narrative is slightly off-beat.

Post-Production - Editing

The editing phase of our film went very smoothly. We edited our film on Final Cut Pro and we edited our sound on Garageband and Soundtrack Pro. We began by editing each shot and grabbing the best parts of each scene and shot so that we had a collection of use worthy material and not shot which had shadows or the director saying cut. We then put all these shots in the correct and chronological order so that we could begin to cut it down. Next we edited it down to about 9-10 minutes which was of course too long. In this time we created our montage sequence and created a song loop to go with it on GarageBand. We then faced the task of making our film just 5 minutes long which involved a great deal of topping and tailing all our shots. We also used cross dissolves and fade in's and fade out's through the duration of our film to make it flow swimmingly. Once our film was five minutes long we showed it to our class to gain feedback. The group agreed that the ending of our film needed to be more powerful as the narrative peaks at that point. I therefore decided to use soundtrack pro to add layers to the sound in the last 30 seconds of our film. I created a montage of dialogue from earlier on in the short film to emphasise the idea that it was all lies to make the evil man more comfortable in his position. I used an echo effect on these voices to suggest they are in his head. I also included a hospital beeping sound through this montage to reinforce the idea that he is now stuck in this bed next to an empty window for life until the beeping stops. After this we edited the sound of the film so that it was smooth and so that no other sounds but the dialogue could be heard. Above are some pictures of our editing process.

Post-Production - Audience Feedback
